Ulrike Wachsmuth-Kießling (1921 – 1984) was born in Cologne and studied at the Reimann School of Art and Design in Berlin. She later worked as an assistant to the set designer Erich Kettelhut, and became a set painter for the UFA. After marrying she worked as a freelance painter and illustrator of books and magazines.
