Millicent Ellis Selsam (1912—1996) was an American biologist and children’s book author. She started the series I Can Read with Harper in 1946 — with her first book Egg to Chick — to enhance children’s understanding of the sciences. Over the course of her career, she wrote more than a hundred children’s books and received numerous awards, including the 1965 ›Thomas Edison Mass Media Award‹ for the best scientific children’s book.
