Valerie Wilson Wesley
Valerie Wilson Wesley, born 1947, grew up on US military bases in Spain and Germany, and studied philosophy and journalism at Columbia University. As editor-in-chief of the Afro-American magazine Essence, she gained first-hand experienced of the issues affecting her black brothers and sisters – material for her Tamara Hayle novels and for her first love story. Valerie Wilson Wesley lives in New Jersey.
